Enjoying a walk through the wintry woods.<\/p><\/div>\n

Since Risa is a rescue dog, I don’t know her exact Birthday. She was 2.5 years old when I got her in July 2006, I picked January 10th. It was also my grandfather’s Birthday and I never got to meet him. So I also picked it in remembrance of him.<\/p>\n

Having spent the weekend at a rally trial that was a bit more for me than her, I decided we needed to focus on things Risa really enjoyed today. I took her down to one of her favorite places to walk for a four-mile excursion in the snow. If she found a good spot to sniff, I let her have her fill of the scents. Risa really enjoys going off the path through the forested area so I made sure she had a chance to wander around up there.<\/p>\n

We got home and spent some time playing fetch with the Wubbas in the yard. Risa really enjoyed sprinting around the yard and chasing one of her favorite toys.<\/p>\n

After all that, she was tired so she took a nap. I gave her a squirrel squeaker mat for her first present. It has 16 squeakers in it and she was quite pleased to get it. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

She also got a buffalo bully stick. It’s only the third time she’s had a bully stick and she was SUPER excited to have it. I had frozen it so it would last longer and she seemed so blissful while she was chewing it.<\/p>\n

At one point, I noticed she had some of it stuck on the side of her face. I reached out to brush it off and Risa thought I was going to steal her goodie! She growled, grabbed the bully stick, and ran off. I was stunned. I know she has some resource guarding tendencies, even with humans. But she’s never EVER growled when I’ve tried to take something away. I have removed raw meat and bones from her mouth with nothing worse than a whale eye or her pulling away from me. However, I always trade for her goodies.<\/p>\n

I wasn’t angry with her. In fact, I felt awful. I hadn’t meant to worry her so much that she felt she needed to guard her goodie from me. \ud83d\ude41 She had dropped it on the other side of the couch and I went over to take it. I called her back over to the towel so she could have her bully stick again. She rolled over on her back up against me. I rubbed her down and apologized. Then I gave her the stick back. I had to take it away later and I traded her for a meatball with no issues.<\/p>\n

For dinner, she got her favorite: ground buffalo (and some of the Bravo beef premade).<\/p>\n

I cannot believe she’s 7 years old now. She sure isn’t acting like it, though! \ud83d\ude00 I hope she had a wonderful Birthday. She is one special dog and I can’t imagine life without her. Happy Birthday, Risa. Love you whole bunches, Muttski!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
